International Cleaners’ Day Breakfast

Striking cleaners hosted a breakfast for the public on Monday on the Parliament House lawns in Canberra.

Parliament House cleaners have not had a pay increase for 3 years and voted unanimously to hold a 24 hour strike.

United Voice national president, Jo-anne Schofield, said that cleaners of Commonwealth buildings had had their annual pay cut by an average $6,837 a year, as a direct result of the Abbott government’s removal of the Cleaning Services Guidelines.

Community Forum on the Trans-Pacific Partnership

On Tuesday evening, 2 June 2015, at the Griffith Community Hall, the Federal Labor Party hosted a community forum on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Australia’s ongoing negotiations.

April 2015 guest speaker, Jon Stanhope

April’s guest speaker was Jon Stanhope, the ACT Chief Minister 2001-2011. Jon subsequently took a two-year term as Administrator of the Indian Ocean Territories (Christmas & Cocos Islands), in 2012-2014. Jon was also Norfolk Island Deputy Administrator for two years in 1991-93.

Jon’s message is that we have not dealt with our historical failure to extend our democracy to the people of Cocos and Christmas Islands, nor have we dealt fairly with Norfolk Islanders.

Next VR Social Lunch NOW on Wednesday 29th

Our next social lunch was to have been on Tuesday April 28th at the RUC Turner.

This lunch has been postponed until the next day Wednesday April 29th & is still at the RUC.

Instead, Vintage Reds are notified that Tuesday 28th is the International Day of Mourning, also known as Workers’ Memorial Day, commemorating all those who have lost their lives at work.
